Studio Solutions
The Challenge:
An organization needs a centralized CD and DVD recording solution to record
CDs and DVDs directly from a Unix workstation or server. They don't want to
send the data to a Windows computer, due to the risk of losing POSIX or other
file system information, or impacting network traffic.
The Solution:
The Young Minds Studio family of products answers the challenge. Studio solutions
provide direct attach CD and DVD recording capability for all common Unix platforms.
With Studio solutions, users record data from virtually any computer running
a Unix operating system, such as AIX, Solaris, HP-UX, Linux, IRIX, QNX, or Tru64.
Other platforms are also supported. Studio attaches via a SCSI connection that
is standard on almost all Unix platforms.
The Studio family of products includes CD
Studio, DVD Studio, PowerStudio,
and MPS4+.
An Example:
A major network communications equipment manufacturer needed a DVD-Recording
solution running under HP-UX to allow them to record files and datasets on a
DVD disc. Tape was not considered cost-effective for this application because
of limited access to tape drives at the multiple sites for reading back data.
Using one of the available DVD-R software packages under Windows was not feasible
because of file system incompatibilities, as well as the inability to read back
UDF-compliant discs on many Unix platforms. Other Unix-based DVD recording packages
were also tested, but did not meet the requirements for recording reliability
and ease of use. With DVD Studio from Young Minds, the customer was able to
exceed their requirements.
