i.Jukebox Virtual CD/DVD Jukebox and Archive Center
The Challenge:
Placing archive discs in physical jukeboxes is not cost effective,
and jukeboxes only have a limited number drives (typically four
or less). The number of drives serves as limiter on the number of
concurrent users that can access data simultaneously. When more
users need to read (or write) files, access times for everyone slows
down. In addition, robotics are used to swap discs in and out of
the drives, which further slows down data access and also lowers
overall system reliability.
The Solution:
Young Minds developed the i.Jukebox Virtual CD/DVD jukebox to provide
cost-effective and fast access to hundreds (or even thousands) of
CD/DVD disc images. Unlike a physical jukebox, i.Jukebox is compact
(4U rackmount form factor), and serves data at hard disk speeds,
much faster than CD/DVD reader speeds. There is no need to swap
discs in and out of drives.

An Example:
A major bank needs to provide online access to millions of check
images to hundreds of thousands of its customers. Most of check
images have been archived and reside on CDs and DVDs, which serve
as a legal hardcopy of the checks. i.Jukebox exceeds the requirements
for this customer.
