Veritas DVD Backup Module

The Challenge:
DVD technology is a natural fit for data backup chores due to the
longevity of media and cross-platform capabilities. On the workgroup
and department level, integrating DVD recording into daily backup
tasks can be demanding and lags the use of tape for serious backup
tasks. Capacity is a major factor that limits DVD for backup uses
for other than individual workstations.
The Solution:
Young Minds developed the Veritas DVD Backup module with SpanDisc
disc spanning technology. The Veritas DVD Backup module can use
both write-once and rewritable media to allow DVD to replace tape
for backup applications. A file packing algorithm ensures that discs
are filled to capacity. Using all available disc capacity saves
both money and time. Restoring data, even when large numbers of
discs are used, is fast and easy through an automated readback capabability.
The Veritas DVD Backup module is available with i.Studio solutions.
Additional modules for other backup software are also available.

An Example:
The US Army needed to replace tape in a data center in the Middle
East due to environmental factors - sand was getting into backup
tapes and tape drives. Since there are no moving parts in DVD discs
and no direct contact between the drive and discs, the dirt and
sand do not pose the same risk for DVD recording and playback. The
Veritas DVD Backup module has met and exceeded all requirements
for the Army.
