Print Head Cleaning Procedure

Clean the print head at every ribbon change, or more often if streaking occurs or the ribbon tears. This procedure requires the CDPR cleaning kit (210555-001).

  1. Power down the printer, then remove the cover.

  2. Remove the ribbon.

  3. Hold down the Unit Attention button and power up the printer. Release the button when the Missing CD LED flashes.

    NOTE: The printer opens and closes the drawer while looking for the ribbon. If the printer does not sense a ribbon, the drawer opens. If the printer senses a ribbon, the drawer stays closed and only the Missing CD LED flashes error #2. Remove the ribbon. If the drawer stays open, go back to Step 1.

  4. Place a cleaning pad on drawer with the adhesive side on the drawer.

  5. Place five drops of cleaning solution on the cleaning pad.

  6. Push the Unit Attention button to close drawer and start cleaning cycle. When the cleaning cycle is complete, the drawer opens. Repeat if necessary.

  7. Remove the cleaning pad.

  8. Clean the front two ribbon guides with a cotton swab soaked in cleaning solution.

  9. Power down the printer.

    NOTE: If the pad on the drawer becomes wet, allow to completely dry before using the printer.

  10. Replace the ribbon and the cover.

  11. Power on the printer.

Alternative Cleaning Method

If a cleaning pad is not available, use the following cleaning procedure.

  1. 1. Power down the printer, then remove the cover.

  2. Remove the ribbon.

  3. Clean the print head using a cotton swab lightly soaked in isopropyl alcohol. Run the cotton swab along the print head.

  4. Wait for the alcohol to dry on the print head then replace the ribbon and the cover.

  5. Power on the printer.
