YMi Releases the microDATA Center

Network Attached Library and Disc Creation Facility

Press Release

Colton, Calif., December 3, 2002--

Young Minds, Inc. (YMi) announced today that its microDATA Center is now available. The microDATA Center is a revolutionary product that utilizes the storage system and network expertise that Young Minds has developed over the past 13 years. The new product is a network-attached storage appliance that incorporates sophisticated data security and data access features, allowing it to fulfill multiple roles in the enterprise. According to Andrew Young, Chairman of Young Minds:

"It has been estimated that up to 80% of all data in the enterprise is only active for 90 days. After that, access is seldom - or never. Data is growing at near-exponential rates, and there is new regulatory emphasis on safeguarding and archiving data. The microDATA Center allows our customers to cost-effectively manage their data by creating and tracking limitless offline archives while retaining active data online. In addition, the microDATA Center can centralize all CD and DVD recording to enable secure data distribution. The integrated database functions that track offline archives are also used to track discs created for distribution. The result is a secure, intelligent, network-enabled data repository with both online and offline components that provides immediate access to current data and an audit trail for offline and distribution data."

The microDATA Center encompasses three distinct functions. First, it is an online library that provides immediate access for up to 240 GB of data. Second, it is a gateway for creating, tracking, and reloading offline archives. And third, it can function as a centralized CD/DVD creation facility with audit-trail capability for total data security.

As an online library, data can be retained as both read-write and read-only data. Read-write data can be exported to CD or DVD disc for project "snapshots" or for off-site distribution. Read-only data is automatically archived to disc. A browser interface lets the data's owner select read-write attributes, archive their data, and even create CDs or DVDs. Users send data to the microDATA Center with standard file management tools.
