Young Minds Inc. Boosts UNIX CD Recording Speeds
Press Release
Colton, Calif., October 4, 2002--
Young Minds, Inc. (YMi) announced today that it has
implemented up to 48x speed CD Recording in its family of CD Studio+
CD Recording solutions. The addition of these fast recording speeds
can reduce disc processing times for users who need to record large
amounts of data within a restricted time.
With 48x recording, CD Studio+ can stream data to
the recorder at speeds over 7 MBytes/second. (48x refers to the
relative speed of recording versus the speed at which an audio CD
plays - which is 1x, or about 150 Kbytes/second.) CD Studio+ always
allows the recorder to record at its fastest possible speed - unlike
its competitors, which often step down the recording speed or pause
the writing process when the host computer is unable to maintain
sufficient I/O transfer speeds. Since CD Studio+ is designed to
optimize I/O transfer rates, it never has to pause recording or
slow down the write speed.
Automation customers can also benefit from faster
recording speeds. Young Minds has introduced up to 44x recording
speeds for use in automation. The slightly slower speed is due to
the requirement for a different recorder that will properly position
its disc loading tray in the robotic disc loading mechanism. In
practice, however, the difference in recording times for 44x and
48x recording is negligible.
CD Studio+ and its automated variants - PowerStudio,
StudioX, and MPS4+ - are available for Windows NT/2000, Linux, and
all Unix platforms, including Solaris, HP-UX, Tru64, and IRIX. A
version that records DVDs as well as CDs is also available.
